To Tear Down...

I have never been so happy to have something of mine defaced. Well, only because it wasn't defaced with malicious intent. I was coming home from Amoeba, listening to my new HomoErectus track, "Paint-drinking Pete!", and I decided to scope out how my work was holding up along the Sunset strip. After all, the track is street art inspired... Anyway, the first spot I came up to was devoid of the Punisher sticker I slapped on a crosswalk signal button dealie last week. I should have known it wouldn't last long there, it was a little too clean compared to the rest of the block. But when I came to the next block, I saw an AWESOME piece, it was a pack of four glossy print outs of what looks like Britney Spears behind a whole mess of single-track strip-players. It looked like some kind of plug-in bonanza, and I tried to take one for myself, only for it to tear up halfway. I was disappointed, but it was cool that I could put it back as it was, torn, obviously, but still there. So I kept walking, and finally, I came to a spot I'm sharing with ALEC, whoever he is. And there I saw the most awesome backhanded compliment I've ever received: Someone had tried to take one of my Punisher stickers, but the exact same thing that had happened to me just minutes before had happened to whoever wanted my work for themselves! It was such a rush. It made my day. I mean, I scored a SEVEN documentary Frontline DVD about Al-Quaeda for 10 bux, but knowing someone wanted my sticker, had fucked it up in the process, but lovingly put back the torn half in its place made me feel super sweet, like I had really arrived in the street art scene or something. A great day...
